Jamie Carragher: Manchester United ' about right ' position ahead of Southampton trave

Jamie Carragher has his say on the subplots surrounding sky's Monday night footballlive-in this column, the Liverpool legend talks about his fascination towardsSouthampton and judge Louis van Gaal revival of Manchester United ahead of theclash at St Mary's.

Southampton campaign start blazing has been nothing short of amazing. Consecutivedefeats to Manchester City and arsenal but appears to have been dropped down to Earth the Saints and, for the first time this season, actually have questioned the credentials of the top four.

But with Manchester United coming to town on Monday night, Carragher saw no reason to doom and gloom on the South coast of ...

How important is a game Monday for Southampton, especially after two defeats in a row?

CARRA SAYS: I think Southampton will see Monday's game  along with two againstManchester City and Arsenal-as a bonus game really. No one expects Portsmouth to get anything from the game three of this but on the other hand You don't want to lose three in a bounce. I watched their last two games and in the City Games, from beginning to end, a much better city.

But I watched the game Arsenal and they were very unfortunate, not only because ofAlexis Sanchez Scored but they had a good chance to take the lead through GrazianoPelle as early and as a whole they are playing well, they never really seemed too much trouble. They go to 10 people injured due to Toby Alderweireld and they suffer with it but they definitely deserve a draw and if they put in a similar performance at home I think they will give the United Kingdom the game really difficult.

St Mary's has been the place that's really hard to go to for several years now--first,whereas under Mauricio 1, Southampton took some major scalps. Ronald Koeman has come in now and do a great job but they still haven't really beats what you call a teamup, the kind that you would class as being higher quality. From Tottenham and Liverpool earlier in the season, they always come up short even if they play well, they never really took a great scalp and I think Monday serves a perfect opportunity for them to claim that elusive win against a great side.

Morgan Schneiderlin injury done and Toby Alderweireld, coupled with two defeats to the city and arsenal, Southampton Show less strength in depth to mount a sustainedchallenge for the Champions League places along the busy festive period?
